3 DIY solutions every homeowner should know
Homemaker DIY essential oil solution to ward off spiders
Not every issue needs a ladder and a pressure washer. A few smart DIY tricks using basic household ingredients can keep small problems from becoming bigger ones. Here are three solutions we actually recommend to Pacific Northwest homeowners.
1. Peppermint Perimeter Spray
Spiders love window frames and doorways, especially in damp weather. Peppermint oil sends them packing—no chemicals needed.
Mix: 10–15 drops peppermint oil + 2 cups water + 1 tsp dish soap in a spray bottle.
Use: Spray around windows, doors, and baseboards weekly or after rain.
2. Baking Soda & Vinegar Drain Flush
Grease and gunk build up fast. A quick flush keeps sinks fresh and helps prevent blockages.
Mix: ½ cup baking soda + 1 cup vinegar.
Use: Pour into the drain, let fizz for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with hot water.
3. Citrus Vinegar Spray
For light wipe-downs on glass, tiles, and non-stone surfaces.
Mix: Soak citrus peels in vinegar for 1–2 weeks, then dilute 1:1 with water in a spray bottle.
Use: Spray and wipe as needed. Ideal for window sills and outdoor furniture.
